"The legacy of trauma and our ancestors can carry on, and it’s trauma that we then hold in our lives and try to hopefully not pass down to the people who come after us." - @cordjefferson
i say this every year but: something nice you can do in december is send a note or an email to a writer who wrote/did something you liked this year (book, podcast, article, whatever) and tell them so; in my experience it can be so lovely to receive around this time
Good morning to everyone that’s writing me about the #goldenglobes
I feel you but know this.
I was on the inside for the first time this year. These are not our people and they do not represent us.
Do not look for justice in the awards system.
We are building a new world.
“Do not look for justice in the awards system.” Goat, tbqh.
it's important to recognize the skill of the actors in parasite. there's a tendency to see the film purely in terms of technical genius, which can feed into a general dehumanization of actors of asian descent, who rarely get their dues in the u.s.
I discussed #WatchmenHBO episode 8, "A God Walks into Abar," with director and series exec producer Nicole Kassell. Best thing I learned: the titular Vietnam bar is the same one where Eddie Blake, The Comedian, gets his face slashed open in the comic.
Odo could’ve been one of the more thankless roles in all of Star Trek. Rene Auberjenois’s face was buried under latex that much of its expressiveness, and often he was swapped out for CGI. But what he could do with his eyes, voice & posture... wow. RIP
I was once lucky enough to meet Rene Auberjonois at an industry party. I was nearly incoherent with admiration. He was as classy and wonderful as you might imagine. I’m such a fan of his empathic and indelible work as Odo and in so many other roles. RIP to one of the greats 💚
