And after three palaeography-filled days, #cipl2020 comes to a close. Thank you, Prof. De Robertis and @irecec for organising a fantastic conference, and thanks to all for great papers and conversations.

CIPL also always reminds me how Late Roman Cursive is probably one of - if not the - most important points in history of western handwriting.

(I am very beholden to this panel because I have a paper back when I was a palaeography baby in 2015.) this year, @KathrynPeak is representing Oxford palaeography and is giving a paper on English responses to Boethius’ De Consolatio Philosophiae.

We’re starting today with the @APICES_paleo panel, which is dedicated to providing junior scholars the opportunity to present their palaeographical research.

Additionally, CIPL always makes me realise how many more languages I need to learn.

In completely unrelated palaeographical news, at least two palaeographers have cut their hair short and dyed it red, a la yours truly. I predict that by CIPL 2032, we will all be sporting the same hairstyle.

Just worked with a manuscript whose second scribe just baffled me. Like, I would be utterly defeated if I had to choose just one script typological name to define it.

Thanks to @o_xico , I have now found my new favourite scribe (CUL Ms Ff.1.23). Look at the variation in his (or her) G’s!!!!!!!!!

And now @o_xico is talking about Oxford Corpus MS 197, a bilingual rule of st Benedict in which the scribe uses Caroline minuscule for the Latin and Vernacular minuscule for the Old English. This is one of my fave mss and partly the reason why I applied to corpus for my JRF.

(this is a joke that only people who know what my name means in Gaelic will get. I am, somewhat under-whelmingly, just Colleen Curran in the Latin script for the admissions ceremony)
