This #Gellhorn photo (taken in @CentralParkNYC) appeared in @harpersbazaarus in January 1944, about the time she wrote to Allen Grover, "I scream for kindness. Let there be kindness. There is bloody little and never at a high enough level.”

Sotheby’s sold this 1931 personalized copy of IN OUR TIME in 2014. EH signed it for #Gellhorn in 1939, the year they moved into the finca in Cuba.

John Wayne's shorts are the shortest shorts that ever did short. What I'm saying is, these shorts are short.

And all I can think of is Nathan Lane’s parody walk in homage in THE BIRDCAGE.

"Raise a dog with sheep and it will love sheep. Raise a dog with goats and it will love goats. Raise a dog with people … you know the rest."

Why dogs are my people.

More news: @sarahmbroom’s National Book Award-winning debut memoir THE YELLOW HOUSE is a @StarTribune Best Book of the Year! Thank you, @StribBooks!

“Brilliant… This moving book tells a broader story of how this country has failed its black citizens.”

I’ve read many great books this year, but if there is any 2019 book that will be a classic in 40 years (if humanity lasts that long), I feel sure it’ll be Miriam Toews’s WOMEN TALKING.

“I had a very clear image of Maurice in my head. I knew his voice from the off....Having a father of 84 years of age...helped immeasurably. It gave me insights into concerns that might not have occurred to me given I was 44 and a woman.” ~@AnneGriffin

YOURS, FOR PROBABLY ALWAYS by @janetsomerville shines a light on the intrepid & singular Martha Gellhorn, too long in shadow. A war correspondent whose words are also for our time. Perhaps all time.

Like Blanche DuBois, it seems that I can always depend on the kindness of strangers.

What a sublime signal boost for #Gellhorn. #YFPAOnTour @FireflyBooks
