This should frighten you. Not just brazen politicization of intelligence, but also someone who is utterly incompetent in an important security role. The guardrails are gone.
@maddow So Grenell is not only not qualified to do the job of DNI, but he also has a direct communication channel to one of Putin’s oligarchs (Firtash) and is actively protecting him, according to Parnas?
The guardrails really are gone.
It's bad. The country is in a dangerous place. What happens in the coming months may make what you've seen so far seem like nothing. You need to be strong. Don't give in to fear or despondency. Stay focused. You remain democracy's best hope in this world. Fight for it, America.
NOTE: Today's Assange news reveals *impeachable conduct*.
Trump—in possession of the best intel in the world establishing Russian election interference—offered a criminal, via an intermediary, an official act in exchange for fabricated evidence that would help Trump politically.
And especially when Dana Rohrabacher is the supposed intermediary.
WSJ already reported in 2017 that Dana Rohrabacher was publicly campaigning for Assange to be pardoned, and that he basically got the cold shoulder from John Kelly, who didn't pass on his request to the president
Trump has power over DOJ, but he cannot use it corruptly. He also has a duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed. Using DOJ to help friends or punish enemies is an abuse of power. Even appearing to interfere for political reasons harms trust.
Julian Assange court appearance today- His lawyer mentioned a statement, that alleges former US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher visited Assange, saying he was there on behalf of the President, offering a pardon if JA would say Russia had nothing to do with DNC leaks. @SBSNews
This thoughtful essay by former DAG Ayer is mandatory reading, tracing the restoration of DOJ’s integrity by AG Levi post-Watergate & debunking Bill Barr’s quest for an imperial presidency. It’s hard to call on an AG to resign but Barr leaves us no choice.
