And again, not all of them are the same, but the experience is one of utter disregard and it's by design. This also isn't an argument against having a national healthcare system for all. IHS doesn't work bc of intentional sabotage & systemic issues that are racist in origin.

In my experience, some of the doctors don't seem to care. I don't pretend to know what their motivations are for being there, but at times they seemed like the type of doctor that was there on assignment for a couple years like it's a rescue in a third world country.

Having lived in Boston in the past where hospitals are on the upper end in quality, the difference is night and day with an IHS hospital in even a more urban area. One of my most frustrating experiences was being at one and the blood pressure monitor not working. Just basics.

I've heard people innocently say "Indian Health Services sounds amazing. You guys get your own healthcare!" No it is not.

It can depend on the location for sure but many are very inadequately staffed & poorly equipped. In some places they're basically third-world hospitals.

In the past few weeks, multiple different insults/slurs against Native Americans were Trending on Twitter... that’s how prevalent it is. Imagine being a Native kid and seeing how popular it is. It’s easy to see how that’d make them feel like no body cares.

Some members of the Gila River Indian Community are protesting President Trump's rally in support of the Tohono O’odham tribe, whose sacred site was blasted to make way for Trump's border wall in southwestern Arizona. #TrumpInAZ #TrumpRallyPhoenix

Upholding the Constitution, which includes s35 Aboriginal Title, and Treaty Rights, require the #FPIC of Indigenous Peoples prior to developing IS the rule of law.

Why does the Prime Minister have a double standard when applying the rule of law in this country?

Plymouth Rock, the iconic landmark that is inscribed with 1620 to mark the year William Bradford and other Pilgrims first set foot on American land, has been covered with red graffiti.

Tattoo artists need to collectively agree to stop doing tattoos of anti-Indigenous imagery. None of these skull in a headdress, naked white chick in a headdress, ugly ass “dreamcatchers”. Just stop doing it altogether.

Today was a much more positive day. I am feeling on the upswing finally.

Instead of focusing purely on theoretical aspects of "cultural appropriation" i think we need to be more unapologetic about recognizing the fact that descendants of colonizers are getting corpses of groups their relatives starved, displaced, imprisoned and killed tattooed on them

What's a state where there really isn't anything to say about it, any big interesting reason to ever visit it? Every state has SOMETHING interesting yes, but which of these is the least interesting of these?

We Native ppl are not trying to go back to "old ways". We went backwards when we assimilated. We are trying to go forward in OUR ways again.
